OCI – Overseas Citizen of India

Overseas Citizen of India – OCI Card is dual citizenship without political rights. Overseas Citizen of India enjoys multiple entry, multi purpose, life-long visa for visiting India, OCI holder is exempted from registration with Foreign Regional Registration Officer or Foreign Registration Officer for any length of stay in India, and is entitled to general ‘parity with Non-Resident Indians in respect of all facilities available to them in economic, financial and educational fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties’. PIO card holder who fulfill certain criteria and have migrated from India to acquire a citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan or Bangladesh, are eligible for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.

OCI Card is issued subject to fulfillment of certain conditions

1. A foreign national, who was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26th January 1950
2. Was a citizen of India on or at anytime after 26th January 1950
3. Belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15th Aug 1947 and his/her’s children and grand children
4. Provided his/her country of citizenship allows dual citizenship in some form or other under the local laws

Issuance or Rejection of OCI card is the sovereign right of the authorities and at no point NRI takes the responsibility of the documents not being accepted. Client shall be responsible to provide all required documentation NRI shall assist the client in obtaining the documents / certificates. Depending on the complexity of the task, the fees may vary; any additional costs incurred shall be borne by the client. NRI cannot be held responsible for any bureaucratic delays or delays due to insufficient or delayed information /documentation provided by the client.
