Marriage in India can be registered under either Special Marriage Act, 1954 or Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. Special Marriage Act is applicable to all citizens of India and Hindu Marriage Act is applicable only to the Hindus. Marriage certificate is issued only if the marriage is registered with the sub-registrar office. A marriage certificate cannot be obtained in absentia, where the marriage has already taken place and was not registered at that point of time, both the applicant and spouse’s physical presence with the supporting documents are required for the registration. NRI will require an authorization letter from applicant in favor of NRI to represent the applicant. NRI will scan an image of the certificate and send it via email, where physical delivery is needed within India, NRI will send it by courier Free of cost, international courier will be charged extra.

NRI will endeavor its best efforts to get the document issued in English, however NRI will not be responsible for the issuance of document in vernacular language.
